Issues
Course crashes or hangs (spinning wheel) and/or displays a grayed-out submit button on question.
The exam application cannot recover if it loses connectivity with the server. Some browsers and aggressively secure networks can interfer with normal operation of the exam. There is no recovery.
Resolution:
Suggest a change of browser and network used on next attempt.
Email response:
I’m sorry to hear you are having issues with the exam. Simply put, the exam application has stopped communicating with the LMS server. Once this happens, it cannot recover or continue.
Most students who take the exam have no issues at all. But those who do experience an issue, will experience it repeatedly. We have found that some browsers work better than others (HTML5 friendly browsers like Chrome and Firefox generally work well, while IE and the older Edge do not).
But more often, it’s the network that seems to be at issue. Some firewalls, ad blockers and such can interrupt the application and cease its normal function. I generally recommend using another network once you’ve experienced these issues. A change in browser may help, but more often it’s a change in location and network that does the trick for students.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
Student receives the 24-hour lockout notices and cannot continue
The lockout is delievered in a cookie from the server at end of an exam attempt and not at the start as previously done.
The student is subject to the lockout on a subsquent attempts within this 24-hour period.
By design, a student can only take an exam once in a 24-hour period, as our instructors want them to review their study materials between attempts.
Resolution:
If a student wants to take the exam again within the 24-hour window, you can inform them that it is by design so they can review their study materials before their next attempt.
Email response:
As our instructors want students to review their study materials between attempts, there is a 24-hour waiting period between attempts.
If the student urgently needs to make another attempt
You might also suggest that they change browsers or clear their browser history and cookies in order to proceed.
Course is NOT registering as complete in BV
There could be a number of reasons, some of which are refered to in the crashes/hangs section above. Often, this too is a browser or network issue but one that allows the student to reach the end of the course. However the completion data or score fails to be reported to or collected by the server.
Resolution:
We can make some of the same suggestions noted above about changing browser and/or network. Often with eLearning courses, a change in browser will allow the user to complete the course where they couldn't before.
If a student just can't get an eLearning course to complete or has evidence (a screenshot) that they passed an assessment course, we can also manually mark a course as complete for a student when necessary.
See Manual Pass for steps.
Incorrect/no name on showing on the Name verification slide
Most often this is becase the account information in BlueVolt is incomplete or incorrect.
Resolution:
Click the 'Send to BlueVolt' button on the student's corresponding contact page in Salesforce. This will tell BlueVolt to update the account information with what is in Salesforce.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, it's probably because there are duplicate accounts in BlueVolt and/or Salesforce for this student. Some investigation is required and a merge of accounts may be necessary.
